2012 GPA Fall Conference in Review

Date: September 26-28, 2012
Location: Columbus, GA

Thank You Columbus!

The 2012 Fall Conference, one of our largest yet, produced a successful event for the Georgia Planning Association in our most recent visit to Columbus, Georgia! This year we added a charrette for the Columbus MidTown neighborhood that is bringing new ideas to this revitalizing area. Attendees had the opportunity to network at receptions in unique venues throughout Uptown (aka downtown) Columbus at the Eagle & Phenix, Rankin Gardens Atrium and at The Loft, where young and seasoned planners got the night started with a dance off! Attendees were able to learn about the issues of planning on a military base with a tour of Fort Benning, and even got a little exercise on a tour of Columbus on bikes. This year GPA hosted the 1st Annual Southeastern Schools of Planning Student Conference with more than 65 students presenting papers on topics ranging from planning in war torn cities, to using mobile applications to learn about the communities we plan in. This was a huge success and we look forward to returning to Columbus in the future, thank you to all of the volunteers for all of their hard work!
