SUMMARY:FREE Webinar – First Steps in Responding to Critics and Reframing Planning
DESCRIPTION:Have you found yourself in the past year in the awkward position of trying to defend our profession? If not\, it is very likely you will as local governments continue to look for ways to save money in the face shrinking revenues. Now is the time to prepare. Be proactive and take advantage of a free webinar currently being offered by APA entitled “First Steps in Responding to Critics and Reframing Planning.” Part of APA’s communication boot camp\, this is the first in a series of sessions that is aimed at empowering planners to build and maintain support for planning. \n Registration is available on the APA website\, and the first session will be held this Friday\, on November 4 at 2 PM EST. If you cannot take advantage of this opportunity this Friday\, the session and all Communications Boot Camp webinars and how-to guides will be archived and made accessible to members on APA’s website. \n It is time for us to reframe the discussion about planning\, and to stress that we are part of the solution\, not part of the problem. Learn how to be an active participant in that discussion\, particularly now\, before the State Legislature goes back into session and local governments start to craft their budgets for the coming year. \n REGISTER HERE.

SUMMARY:Cents & Sensibility: Atlanta's Transportation Vision
DESCRIPTION:In 2012\, the 10-county Atlanta region (Cherokee\, Clayton\, Cobb\, DeKalb\, Douglas\, Fayette\, Fulton\, Gwinnett\, Henry and Rockdale) will vote on whether to pass a 1% sales tax. The revenue generated by this tax will be used to fund a list of transportation projects\, ranging from transit\, roads\, safety\, pedestrian and bike improvements\, and technology updates. \nCENTS & SENSIBILITY: Atlanta’s Transportation Vision is a panel discussion on the impact that next year’s 1-cent sales tax transportation referendum will have on the region’s economy\, environment and equity. This is a free symposium that Georgia Tech’s Student Planning Association (SPA) offers annually in celebration of the American Planning Association’s World Town Planning Day. This will be an exciting opportunity to hear and discuss the effects of the referendum before we go to vote in 2012. \nPANELISTS: \n\nMayor Bucky Johnson\, City of Norcross\, Chairman of the Atlanta Regional Round Table on Transportation\nColleen Kiernan Director\, the Sierra Club – Georgia Chapter\nTom Weyandt\, Senior Policy Advisor on Transportation\, City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office\n\nRegistration and info: www.georgiatechspa.com/WTPD \nAICP CM credits are being pursued for this event.
