SUMMARY:2014 GPA Fall Conference
DESCRIPTION:The conference will continue in the traditional format on Thursday morning with an exciting keynote speaker and breakout sessions. Thursday evening we will replace our traditional evening reception with the presentation of the GPA Chapter Awards at an Awards Dinner and Membership meeting before hitting the town for the great Athens nightlife. DESCRIPTION:Conference attendees of all ages are invited to the Young Planners’ Group (YPG) Reception at Hendershot’s on Thursday\, October 2\, 2014 from 9:00 PM – 11:00 PM\, following the Awards Dinner. Located in the historic Bottleworks building at 237 Prince Avenue\, Hendershot’s is a much-loved coffeehouse\, bar\, and music venue. Reception-goers will enjoy live funk\, blues\, and jazz music from Old Skool Trio\, an Athens-based band. Hendershot’s is within walking distance from Downtown\, but the Bottleworks building also has dedicated parking in the rear lot on Meigs Street. Join us for an opportunity to learn about the new GPA Mentor Program\, unwind and network with other planners from across Georgia.

DESCRIPTION:GPA is proud to sponsor an upcoming lecture and discussion from noted architect\, urban planner\, and scholar\, Miguel Coyula. Coyula will present “Cuba in the 21st Century: A View from Inside Out- Preservation and Development of Colonial Havana” followed by discussion on the impact of political and economic circumstances on preservation and development. \nThe program will be held on Oct 13th at the GSU Buckhead Center\, Tower Place 200\, 3rd floor\, Atlanta\, GA 30326 with registration at 6:30 and the presentation and discussion from 7 until 8:30. SUMMARY:CNU Talk with Ray Gindroz
DESCRIPTION:On Oct. 16th we will be spending the day with Ray Gindroz. We have also partnered with the local chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art to present an additional lecture the night before.  The title of the lecture for the ICAA-SE is Renaissance Urban Acupuncture and other Practical History Lessons for 21st Century Urbanists.   \nThe CNU event will run from 9am to 12 noon on Thurs.\, Oct. 16th.  We will break for lunch in Little 5 Points\, and then pick back up around 1/1:30pm and walk the newly formed L5P CID with Scott Ball and other members of the CID Board\, with Ray providing commentary.  The first part of the day will be split into two talks and the titles of those are as follows –  \nCNU Talk No. 1:   Struggling Toward an Humane UrbanismCNU Talk No. 2:   Designing Economic Revival: The Norfolk Story \nRay describes the three talks as follows “These three lectures deal with different aspects of my 50 years at Urban Design Associates\, during which we developed techniques and methods for building urbanism.  The first lecture describes sources of inspiration and lessons for building beautiful urban spaces that are user and pedestrian friendly.  The second describes the evolution of our work as we developed and applied those lessons.  The third focusses on the City in which we have worked for the past 30 years and looks in detail at some specific applications of the method.” \n\n\n\n$20 Government / Students$35 CNU Members$50 All Others \nA suggested minimum donation of $15 for those taking the walking tour will be collected for the Marilyn and Ray Gindroz Foundation. \nRegistration and more information: www.cnuatlanta.org \nDownload Flyer
