SUMMARY:The Fourth Annual Urban Planning Conference
DESCRIPTION:Planning across Generations: Deconstructing the Past\, Shaping the Future\nRegistration is now open for the 2016 Urban Planning Conference at Savannah State University The conference titled “Planning across Generations: Deconstructing the Past\, Shaping the Future” will take place on Friday\, April 1\, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. in the new Student Union at Savannah State University campus and on Saturday\, April 2\, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. – noon at the Kennedy Pharmacy in downtown Savannah. \nThe conference will explore the nexus of past and future facing today’s planners and policymakers from an interdisciplinary perspective and learn how planners can avoid repeating past mistakes that have led to unjust\, unsustainable\, and unhealthy cities present today. On the first day\, we will have a series of presentation sessions. The keynote speaker is Kevin J. Krizek\, Ph.D.\, professor and director of the Environmental Design Program at the University of Colorado Boulder. Dr. Krizek actively publishes in the areas of travel behavior\, neighborhood accessibility\, health and planning\, and sustainable development. Also featured is Anh Nguyen\, a data dissemination specialist of the U.S. Census Bureau\, who will share the updates to databases and mapping tools. One of the DURP family members\, Kristin Murray\, a PhD candidate\, will present her research titled “Revitalization through Sport Olympic Legacies and Their Impacts on Host Cities”. \nOn the second day of the conference\, we will have two-hour mobile workshop highlights the past\, present and future of Savannah’s downtown and will wind its way through the historic landmark district and then on to revitalization projects on Broughton Street\, Bay Street and the waterfront. Learn how planners\, urban designers and developers are working to balance preservation and transformation. \nAll sessions are open to the public. All participants must register and pay the conference fees of $50.00 (regular participants) or $75.00 (AICP participants who are seeking CM credits). All proceeds go to benefit students of the Urban Studies and Planning program at Savannah State University. DESCRIPTION:GPA invites you to the Southeast Chapters and Schools Reception at the APA National Conference in Phoenix. \nLucky Strike is an upscale bar with bowling alley\, a 7 minute walk from the convention center. It’s not your typical bowling alley. In addition to the rooms and food\, our contract calls for 4 private lanes thrown in. Who knows\, maybe a little chapter or school competition? Included this year in the reception are five chapters:  VA\, NC\, SC\, GA\, and FL\, plus 11 schools: Va Tech\, Va Commonwealth\, Appalachian State\, University of North Carolina\, East Carolina\, Clemson\, University of Georgia\, Georgia Tech\, Florida State\, University of Florida\, and Florida Atlantic. \nThanks to John Morck and colleagues at the NC Chapter for making arrangements this year\, and to the Arizona chapter for help in venue selection. \nDownload the flyer

DESCRIPTION:Register online \nThe GPA 2016 Spring Conference will be held on Wednesday\, April 20\, 2016 at the Douglasville Conference Center\, 6700 Church Street\, in Downtown Douglasville\, GA.  GPA is pleased to welcome Tim Keane\, the City of Atlanta’s Commissioner of Planning & Development\, and previously Charleston\, SC’s Director of Planning\, Preservation and Sustainability\, as our opening keynote speaker.  In addition\, there will be a wide variety of sessions offered\, covering transportation\, community engagement\, environmental planning/sustainability\, comprehensive planning/quality growth\, and ethics\, as well as a walking tour of Downtown Douglasville showcasing historic buildings which have been converted to modern uses. DESCRIPTION:Join the YPG for an opportunity to help beautify Old Fourth Ward! A tree-planting demonstration will be provided at 9 AM sharp\, and all necessary tools will be provided. Project is for volunteers age 12 and up. Closed-toed shoes and a reusable water bottle are recommended. Project will happen rain or shine! \nThere are 15 open slots for this event. Volunteers will be helping with mulching and watering trees. Make sure to wear good shoes or boots\, clothes to get dirty in\, and bring your favorite water bottle!
