DESCRIPTION:THIS IS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED \nThe data on urban infrastructure systems can be combined with massive amounts of cell phone location data\, social media postings\, autonomous vehicle records\, transit card swipes\, drone and surveillance video and credit card transaction records. The combination of instrumented urban infrastructure data with social media and transaction data comprises Urban Big Data. This course will: \n\nFamiliarize students with the new forms of data that are becoming available\nDiscuss the challenges of acquiring and analyzing this data\nIdentify the ways this new data can be used to improve planning and explore how these smart technologies will change the pattern and function of urban areas.\n\nCost:\nThis course is free of charge. SUMMARY:Historic Chicopee Mill & Village and Chicopee Woods: A Comprehensive Perspective
DESCRIPTION:This event will build on last year’s gathering of planners\, landscape architects and architects at this same location in April\, which focused on the core area of historic Chicopee Village. The event\, offering 4 hours of AICP credits\, begins with a driving tour of the entire property\, including most of the watershed purchased by Johnson & Johnson (J&J) to create Chicopee Mill. Stops include the many recreational amenities in Chicopee Woods (CW) Park\, Elachee Nature Science Center\, CW Golf Course\, and other points of interest. Lectures follow at Elachee and cover two topics: (1) the conservation ethic that began when J&J created Chicopee and how it continues today; and (2) Historic Preservation Law and Economic Incentives. The social at Left Nut Brewery\, located in the historic mill office and machine shop\, will feature pies and sides from “Pouch Pies” of Athens and craft beers and ciders and non-alcoholic selections. \nParticipants are encouraged to make a day of it and come early. Play a round of golf; explore the challenging mountain bike trails\, maintained by the local chapter of SOBRA (Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association); walk or bike the Chicopee segment of the Highlands to Islands Trail network\, a paved concrete trail; or hike the nature trails in the Elachee preserve. \nThis event is FREE to members of GPA\, GAASLA\, and AIA. \nEarn 4 hours of AICP credits. \nLearn More or Register

In keeping with this year’s theme\, “Atlanta in the Anthropocene: The Making of a Resilient\, Resourceful City\,” the symposium will bring together scholars from across the region to discuss Atlanta’s role in climate mitigation\, and how Atlanta might respond to coming challenges. The symposium will also feature keynote addresses from J. Marshall Shepherd (University of Georgia) and Bartow Elmore (Ohio State University). \nThe Atlanta Studies Symposium is free and open to the public\, however\, we request that you register in advance so that we can accurately gauge seating and food needs.
