SUMMARY:Planning for Electric Vehicle Infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:The objective of this session is to train GPA members in electric vehicle (EV) supply equipment and best practices for planning and promoting EV infrastructure in public spaces and the built environment. \nThe increasing integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into our society brings opportunities and challenges for the power system.  This training will provide an overview of EV supply equipment (EVSE) and best practices in incorporating EVSEs into codes\, laws\, and zoning ordinances. Join us in this training to: \n\ndistinguish EV supply equipment and electrical service requirements \nexamine best practices in expanding EV charging infrastructure via energy codes\, stretch codes\, zoning\, and local laws nationwide through case studies\nunderstand the use cases / economics of fleet electrification \ngain familiarity with smart charging strategies\, charging schedules specific to vehicle duty cycles\, and vehicle to X (“V2X”) to help manage the load during peak times\, and the use of EVs as power supplies to the grid during peak times or outages\ndiscuss pathways and next steps in planning for EVs in your county\n\nThis session offers 2 CM credits to AICP professionals. \nInterested attendees\, please complete this pre-training survey. \nRegister Here \nBrief Biography\nThis training will be delivered by Michael Ginsberg\, Vice President of Energy Transition at Bowman Consulting Group. Mr. Ginsberg is a renewable energy specialist\, buildings systems consultant and author with over a decade of experience performing technical analyses of renewable energy and building systems at various solar PV projects at U.S. Embassies worldwide. As the Vice President of Energy Transition at Bowman Consulting\, he leads the multi-disciplinary engineering firm’s work in EVs\, renewable energy\, microgrids and green hydrogen. Michael is a Doctor of Engineering Science candidate at Columbia University\, specializing in the techno-economics of solar energy grid integration and renewable hydrogen through PEM electrolysis. He is a LEED AP O+M\, CEM\, NABCEP PV Installation Professional\, and holds a MS in Sustainability Management from Columbia University. He is a member of the California Public Utility Commission Rule 21 (Smart Inverter Interconnection) Decision-making Committee and sits on a developer-led Hydrogen Hub Steering Committee for the Pacific NW. \n
