DESCRIPTION:The 2012 Georgia Institute of Transportation Engineers (GA ITE) Summer Seminar is being held July 15-18 in St. Simons Island at the beautiful King & Prince Beach & Golf Resort! \nThe conference is well attended by transportation engineers\, planners\, and policy makers from across Georgia and the Southeast\, and is generally considered one of the best ITE statewide seminars in the country… and most importantly\, it’s at the beach! Dr. Michael Meyer of Georgia Tech is the keynote speaker\, and his presentation focuses on the overall seminar theme of “Learn from our Past\, Improve our Future”. \nTechnical sessions include presentations on alternate intersection and complete street implementations\, sustainability assessment toolboxes\, update on statewide planning studies\, and a review of GDOT’s managed lanes initiatives. Regional transit updates from the Beltline\, MARTA\, and the MMPT design group will also be provided. DESCRIPTION:Registration for the July 18 Talking Freight seminar on Siting of Freight Facilities is now available. \nDescription: Public officials at the state and local level are frequently called on to consider the siting of freight intermodal terminals\, inland ports\, and warehouses and distribution centers. To formulate effective economic development strategies and react appropriately to proposals for the development of public or private freight facilities\, public-sector decision makers benefit from understanding of private-sector financial and transportation drivers for siting freight facilities. This Talking Freight seminar will feature presentations from industry representatives who specialize in developing supply chain and intermodal facilities\, along with a presentation on NCFRP Report 13\, Freight Facility Location Selection: A Guide for Public Officials. \nPresenters: \n\nChristopher Steele\, CWS Consulting Group\, LLC\nVann Cunningham\, BNSF Railway Company\nJohn Morris\, Cushman and Wakefield of Illinois\, Inc.\n\nIf you have not yet participated in Talking Freight\, I encourage you to do so. These monthly seminars\, sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration\, are held via web conference\, which means that you view the PowerPoint presentations over the Internet while listening to the presenters over your computer or the telephone.
