SUMMARY:Community Action for Climate Change Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Unprecedented heat waves\, storms of the century\, and devastating fires are impacting communities across the country. While large-scale interventions in policy and technology are necessary to preserve the planet\, the most impactful adaptation solutions often originate at the local level. However\, with something as large as the climate crisis\, it can be hard for local communities to know where to begin. \nThis webinar\, featuring Cate Mingoya\, Author of Climate Action for Busy People\, and Mara Parker\, Montgomery County\, MD Climate Adaptation Program Manager\, will present a roadmap with helpful case studies for anyone who wants to boost their community’s climate resilience and move the needle toward environmental justice. \nParticipants of this live webinar are eligible for 1.5 AICP CM credits. \nRegister for the Zoom Here

SUMMARY:A Virtual EDI Symposium
DESCRIPTION:In honor of International Women’s Day 2023\, the Georgia Planning Association Equity\, Diversity & Inclusion Committee presents The Gendered Conversation: A Virtual EDI Symposium featuring \n\nKeli Kemp\, AICP\, PP\, Modern Mobility Partners\nSonia Hirt\, FAICP Dean of the University of Georgia College of Environment + Design\, and\nEllen Bassett\, Dean of Georgia Tech’s School of City and Regional Planning.\n\nThis first symposium intends to help shed light on and provide space for dialogue and education on important diversity and equity-related topics\, focusing on women and BIPOC in planning practice and education. One of the priorities of the EDI Committee is to expand our outreach to broader\, younger\, and more diverse people in the hopes of generating interest in urban/community planning and related professions. \nFor some context\, the theme for International Women’s Day 2023 is “Imagine a gender-equal world. A world free of bias\, stereotypes\, and discrimination. A world that is diverse\, equitable\, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.” Our guests will speak about their personal and professional experiences both in and out of academia and offer some insights from their research and practice areas. \n1.5 CM equity credits will be available. \nJoin Zoom Meeting \nMeeting ID: 850 4130 7650\nPasscode: 499441\nOne tap mobile\n+13017158592\,\,85041307650#\,\,\,\,*499441# US (Washington DC)\n+13052241968\,\,85041307650#\,\,\,\,*499441# US

SUMMARY:Energy Scenario Planning for Cities & Counties Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Data-driven decision-making can empower communities to invest resources in the most impactful and cost-efficient way. With the passage of the bipartisan infrastructure law\, new resources are now becoming available for local governments\, which makes this an especially important time for communities to be setting clean energy goals and planning how to use resources effectively. This workshop will highlight two complementary tools. The SLOPE Scenario Planner allows users to build\, view\, and compare energy scenarios through the year 2050. \nJoin us in this NREL workshop to discover: \n\nwhat will it mean for your community as the grid is decarbonized\,\nas more drivers choose electric vehicles\,\nas building heating is electrified\,\nand energy loads become more flexible?\n\nYou will explore energy consumption\, carbon emissions and system costs for your county during the live demo. Workshop participants will also gain hands-on experience with the SLOPE Data Viewer\, which can augment the Scenario Planner discussion with data about solar technical potential\, energy efficiency\, transportation and more. \nCM 1.25\n \nRegister Here
