SUMMARY:Integrating Transportation Options for Older Adults
DESCRIPTION:A Lifelong Community is a community where individuals can live throughout their lifetime; they provide a full range of options to residents\, ensuring a high quality of life for all. Lifelong mobility and accessibility provides access and transportation to people of all ages and abilities. Real mobility begins inside the home and carries throughout the entire built environment. So how do we build on the framework of current development patterns to ensure older adults have access to critical goods and services? \nThis workshop will examine several key components of Lifelong Communities from a transportation standpoint. DESCRIPTION:Dear Chapter Presidents and Division Chairs\, \nAPA is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the Community Planning Assistance Team (CPAT) program.   The CPAT is a place-based initiative designed to bring planning resources and opportunities to communities with a demonstrated need for assistance.  APA Chapters and Divisions are encouraged to help spread the word about this opportunity to both communities and planning experts.  Community applications will be accepted through February 22\, 2011 for the first application window. SUMMARY:Community Planning Institute
DESCRIPTION:The 2011 Community Planning Institute dates are February 15-16 in Savannah and July 15-16 in Helen\, Georgia. DCA limits class size to allow each participant a full opportunity to learn in small groups and take part in class discussions. The Community Planning Institute provides training for citizens\, staff and elected officials involved in planning and land development in their communities.  DCA staff members emphasize the importance of a community vision in planning for the future and the role of the planning commissioner\, which is to help define that vision and how to work with your community’s citizens and governing body to make that vision a reality.
