DESCRIPTION:Connecting on Common Ground\nIn 2024\, Atlanta broke into the top 25 in the Trust for Public Land’s ParkScore\, up from 52nd in 2016. This annual index compares the top 100 most populous cities and ranks their park systems based on equity\, access\, investment amenities and acreage. This also coincided with the City of Atlanta crossing the 500\,000 population barrier for the first time ever. \nThese milestones force us to consider what it means to be a big city and what we should expect from amenities like our parks\, trails and greenspaces. Atlanta is not only growing in numbers but also in diversity. Parks are places of (literal) common ground that give us a shared sense of community. They are places where people from diverse backgrounds\, ages and incomes can play\, interact or enjoy solitude in nature. Parks remind us that our differences aren’t as big as we sometimes imagine. DESCRIPTION:This training provides knowledge\, resources\, and tools that give local planning commission members and others involved in the planning process confidence in making educated\, effective decisions to help shape their communities. Attendees will learn about the history and legal foundations of planning and zoning; the creation and implementation of a comprehensive plan; and how to incorporate best practices in their own communities in meeting management\, preparation\, and leadership. Sessions will also expose participants to the broader role of planning in the Atlanta region in functional areas such as land use; urban design; transportation; natural resources; equity; resiliency; aging; housing; and arts and culture. \nThe Training for Planning Officials is a multi-part series of four sessions\, spread over the course of four months. Attendance at all four sessions is required as the content builds sequentially throughout the course. All sessions are in-person and take up the bulk of the workday. DESCRIPTION:The Georgia Geospatial Association and the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission are hosting a workshop titled Unraveling the Mystery of Deeds.\n \nDeeds are complicated legal documents but understanding them is essential in public administration. In this workshop\, you will learn the most common types of deeds\, how to read and decipher them\, how to identify mistakes and red flags\, and the process of filing deeds in the State of Georgia.\n \nIn this workshop\, we will cover the following: \n\nA brief history of deeds in Georgia\,\nHow to read and interpret deeds\,\nDifferent types of deeds\, including warranty deeds\, quit claim deeds\, special interest deeds\, and\nHow to file deeds in the State of Georgia and the new FANS system. \n\nThe workshop will be very hands-on. Participants can bring a tablet or laptop if they wish but it will not be required. Each participant will be given a physical workbook they will use throughout the class. \nWho Should Attend?\nCounty and City Clerks\, Planners\, Administrative staff\, GIS staff\, and Public Works staff that may deal with deeds in their day-to-day jobs and duties.
