DESCRIPTION:Connecting on Common Ground\nIn 2024\, Atlanta broke into the top 25 in the Trust for Public Land’s ParkScore\, up from 52nd in 2016. This annual index compares the top 100 most populous cities and ranks their park systems based on equity\, access\, investment amenities and acreage. This also coincided with the City of Atlanta crossing the 500\,000 population barrier for the first time ever. \nThese milestones force us to consider what it means to be a big city and what we should expect from amenities like our parks\, trails and greenspaces. Atlanta is not only growing in numbers but also in diversity. Parks are places of (literal) common ground that give us a shared sense of community. They are places where people from diverse backgrounds\, ages and incomes can play\, interact or enjoy solitude in nature. Parks remind us that our differences aren’t as big as we sometimes imagine. DESCRIPTION:The Georgia Geospatial Association and the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission are hosting a workshop titled Unraveling the Mystery of Deeds.\n \nDeeds are complicated legal documents but understanding them is essential in public administration. In this workshop\, you will learn the most common types of deeds\, how to read and decipher them\, how to identify mistakes and red flags\, and the process of filing deeds in the State of Georgia.\n \nIn this workshop\, we will cover the following: \n\nA brief history of deeds in Georgia\,\nHow to read and interpret deeds\,\nDifferent types of deeds\, including warranty deeds\, quit claim deeds\, special interest deeds\, and\nHow to file deeds in the State of Georgia and the new FANS system. \n\nThe workshop will be very hands-on. Participants can bring a tablet or laptop if they wish but it will not be required. SUMMARY:2025 Training for Planning Officials – Spring
DESCRIPTION:This training provides knowledge\, resources\, and tools that give local planning commission members and others involved in the planning process confidence in making educated\, effective decisions to help shape their communities. Attendees will learn about the history and legal foundations of planning and zoning; the creation and implementation of a comprehensive plan; and how to incorporate best practices in their own communities in meeting management\, preparation\, and leadership. Sessions will also expose participants to the broader role of planning in the Atlanta region in functional areas such as land use; urban design; transportation; natural resources; equity; resiliency; aging; housing; and arts and culture. \nThe Training for Planning Officials is a multi-part series of four sessions\, spread over the course of four months. Attendance at all four sessions is required as the content builds sequentially throughout the course. All sessions are in-person and take up the bulk of the workday. DESCRIPTION:The City of Atlanta will host its third Affordable Housing Week with a 3-day event June 23rd – 25th. The event will feature the Welcome H.O.M.E. (Housing Opportunity Moves Everyone) program\, the Homeownership Initiative Workshop and more. \nFrom June 23rd – 25th\, the Department of City Planning will continue to move the needle on affordable housing during “Affordable Housing Week 2025” with three days of educational programming about Atlanta’s affordable housing initiatives. This year’s third installment of affordable housing programming features informational sessions about zoning\, inspections\, and financing. \nThis year’s programming promises to be an invaluable opportunity for both the public and the development community to learn more about the essential aspects of affordable housing. “Affordable Housing Week 2025* will again highlight Welcome H.O.M.E. – Housing Opportunity Moves Everyone\, the permitting process for affordable housing projects in the City of Atlanta\, and also the 2025 Homeownership Initiative – a custom workshop for participants to engage directly with agencies\, lenders\, non-profits\, and real estate professionals to advance their journey toward homeownership. \nConnect with industry professionals\, builders\, and local leaders.
