We hope to reschedule at a later date.** \nPlease join us for an informative presentation by William Johnston\, Executive Director of the MicroLife Institute\, as he explains the institute’s beliefs in theory around adding more community-driven housing projects by changing policy. This will be an interactive session where you will learn about the institute’s journey through building a micro pocket neighborhood and how it partnered with the City of Clarkston and other stakeholders to create a successful\, density-driven project. William will be joined by Shawanna Qawiy\, Clarkston’s Planning/Economic and Development Director\, who will provide additional insight into the city’s Cottage Home Ordinance. Following the presentation\, we will visit the Cottages on Vaughan to see the successful development that resulted from this partnership between the MicroLife Institute and the city. \nRegistration is limited to 35 participants. The registration fee of $20 for GPA members or $25 for non-members will go towards covering the cost of light refreshments and a donation to support the MicroLife Institute’s work. \n*Masks will be required in the Community Center regardless of vaccination status. \nThis event will be eligible for 2.5 CM credits. \nQuestions? Georgia Smart empowers communities to envision and plan for a smarter future by providing opportunities to work with Georgia Tech and university researchers to advance local initiatives. In 2020\, the City of Valdosta was one of four communities supported by Georgia Smart for their “Traffic Monitoring and Communication System to Improve Safety\, Connectivity\, and Efficiency” project. \nOver the last year\, the City of Valdosta project team has piloted a smart traffic management system connecting all 128 city traffic signals\, with enhancements to the system including hardware and software upgrades at signals and in the traffic control operations center and installation of communications responders in city fire trucks. Georgia Smart empowers communities to envision and plan for a smarter future by providing opportunities to work with Georgia Tech and university researchers to advance local initiatives. In 2020\, the city of Sandy Springs was one of four communities supported by Georgia Smart for their “Streamlining Suburban Transit” project\, which sought to pilot Transit Signal Priority with an Application Program Interface. \nOver the last year\, the Sandy Springs project and research team have worked together to plan\, install\, pilot\, and evaluate the innovative TSP system using an API\, including its effects on the corresponding bus system. The project sought to improve mobility\, maximize the transit system and improve walkability and sense of place in the Perimeter and Roswell Road areas without the need for extensive infrastructure investments such as bus-only lanes or expensive hardware and radios. Specifically\, Sandy Springs will test TSP on MARTA bus route 5 which connects the Dunwoody and Lindbergh MARTA rail stations and operates with 15-minute headway. \nPlease join the Partnership and the Georgia Planning Association for this virtual event of the City of Sandy Springs’ final project presentation. The first session (June 15th) is intended for public transit agency staff and decision-makers at all levels\, focusing on formulating an approach for a redesign\, while the second session (June 16th) will be for more technical transit agency staff (service planners\, GIS analysts\, etc.)\, and will provide opportunities for hands-on exploration of tools that can support a redesign approach. \nThe registration form includes several survey questions. The first session (June 15th) is intended for public transit agency staff and decision-makers at all levels\, focusing on formulating an approach for a redesign\, while the second session (June 16th) will be for more technical transit agency staff (service planners\, GIS analysts\, etc.)\, and will provide opportunities for hands-on exploration of tools that can support a redesign approach. \nThe registration form includes several survey questions. Your responses will give us valuable input to make the workshop as relevant as possible to you and your agency. \nWe appreciate the broad interest that exists around this topic. However\, this workshop is formatted for transit agency practitioners to allow them to freely exchange ideas and discuss best practices. This session will not be open to private sector participants.
