SUMMARY:Historic Preservation Commission Training
DESCRIPTION:Historic preservation commissions and others can get training from the Vinson Institute to help them carry out their responsibilities and maintain the integrity of protected community locations. \nThe Institute offers historic preservation commission training twice annually in different host locations throughout the state in partnership with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Historic Preservation Division\, the Georgia Alliance for Preservation Commissions\, and the UGA Center for Community Design and Preservation. \nThis specialized training explains how to administer local preservation ordinances more effectively. You will learn about preservation law\, design guidelines\, procedures\, administrative issues\, local preservation planning\, and community development strategies. \nIn addition to those who serve on commissions\, the training can benefit local planning and development officials\, city and county attorneys\, historic property owners\, Main Street and Better HomeTown managers and board members\, and local building inspectors. \nHistoric Preservation Commission training will be held in Carrollton on March 11 and 12. DESCRIPTION:The 2011 Community Planning Institute dates are February 15-16 in Savannah and July 15-16 in Helen\, Georgia. DCA limits class size to allow each participant a full opportunity to learn in small groups and take part in class discussions. The Community Planning Institute provides training for citizens\, staff and elected officials involved in planning and land development in their communities.
