SUMMARY:Short Course - Confronting Homelessness: Innovation & Collaboration
DESCRIPTION:The Georgia Institute of Technology School of City and Regional Planning is offering this short course to discuss the causes and consequences of homelessness and how cities deal with this critical challenge. It will include panel discussions\, stories from people who have suffered homelessness\, and outreach to see firsthand how homeless individuals survive followed by helping them transition to shelters. The last day will be about solutions—what are the innovative plans and programs that have made a difference in reducing homelessness. \nThe course is arranged and coordinated by Protip Biswas\, Executive Director\, Regional Commission on Homelessness\, United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta.

Gravel is an urban thinker\, designer\, author\, and builder – an entrepreneur working on ideas about the future of cities. His master’s thesis in 1999 was the original vision for the Atlanta Beltline and he has received numerous awards on similar “catalyst infrastructure” projects. Ryan has been published in the New York Times\, Wall Street Journal\, USA Today\, and Esquire Magazine. He has also been listed among the 100 Most Influential Georgians by Georgia Trend Magazine.
