Community Engagement Coordinator

Description of Job / Position
The Community Engagement Coordinator will build relationships with communities in the Atlanta region that increase the capacity, diversity and effectiveness of grassroots advocacy on issues surrounding walkability. The Coordinator will also help plan and implement training workshops and community events.


  • Identify, initiate and deepen relationships with various community stakeholders
  • Attend community meetings and events on behalf of PEDS to hear and better understand community concerns, collaborate with partners, share information, and recruit volunteers
  • Support people in selected communities to become effective pedestrian safety advocates
  • Design and implement innovative engagement ideas
  • Implement “Pop-up” and tactical urbanism activities
  • Plan and implement community meetings, workshops, and events.
  • Implement social media strategy
  • Perform other duties related to the core work of PEDS as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university desired
  • Degree in public administration, urban planning, social work, or public health desired
  • At least one year of experience in community or volunteer engagement, neighborhood associations, and/or grassroots activism
  • Experience with public speaking and making presentations required
  • Experience working with external partners, such as government agencies or neighborhood associations desired
  • Fluency with social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram


  • Passionate about walking, safety and livable communities
  • Energetic, outgoing, and personable, with outstanding listening, writing and public speaking skills and a confident and engaging presentation style
  • Familiarity with neighborhoods in South and West Atlanta strongly desired
  • Skills in creating engaging visuals and marketing materials a plus
  • Ability to speak Spanish a plus
  • Available to begin work by August 15
  • Team player who is responsive to direction and feedback and committed to working collaboratively with all constituent groups
  • Willingness to work occasionally at evening and weekend events

Salary & Benefits
Full-time, salaried position
Starting salary range: $35,000 – $38,000, with opportunity for growth
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
