The Atlanta BeltLine is a $4.8 billion urban revitalization project being developed for the City of Atlanta, Georgia by Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. – a Georgia non-profit private development corporation. The Atlanta BeltLine program of projects includes 22 miles of modern streetcar/light rail transit (as part of a 50-mile system being developed in partnership with the city of Atlanta and Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority – MARTA), 33 miles of urban trails, 2,000 acres of new and rehabilitated parkland, 46 miles of new complete streets and streetscape improvements, public art, historic preservation, and 1,100 acres of brownfield reclamation, all of which will support the creation of 28,000 mixed income housing units (including 5,600 affordable workforce units) and 30,000 permanent and 48,000 one-year construction jobs. The Atlanta Beltline program is expected to stimulate between $10-20 billion in redevelopment in an area encompassing approximately 20 percent of the city’s land area and population over a 25-year implementation period expected to be completed by 2030. In November 2016 Atlanta residents approved a ½ cent sales tax that will fund expanded MARTA services and capital projects within the city, including the streetcar system.

Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI) is seeking a Community Engagement Manager. The Community Engagement Manager will be responsible for building awareness and engagement among Atlanta residents; communicating with the community about current Atlanta BeltLine issues; ensuring the active and meaningful participation of the community on matters related to the Atlanta BeltLine, and providing substantive information and responses to community concerns, issues, and inquiries to Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. and related partners and organizations.

The Community Engagement Manager will play a critical role in community related activities, including the implementation of the citizen engagement framework for the Atlanta BeltLine. The Community Engagement Manager will become a part of the community engagement team that has the responsibility of guaranteeing robust citizen engagement in the implementation of the Atlanta BeltLine.

Position Responsibilities
The position reports directly to the Planning and Community Engagement Director. Successful candidates will demonstrate well-honed, experience and instincts and a track record for effective community building; experience in City Planning and an understanding of planning concepts; experience with neighborhood-based and advocacy groups; and strong negotiation and verbal and written communication skills. In addition, successful candidates will demonstrate leadership skills, a capacity for negotiation and consensus-building, and familiarity with the goals of the BeltLine project, Atlanta neighborhoods, and the NPU process. The Community Engagement Manager will also play an important role in assuring citizen participation opportunities are well-publicized and well-attended by the community.

Requirements
Master’s Degree in City or Regional Planning or related field; Three to five years of increasingly responsible experience in the fields of planning, community engagement land use, zoning or development; AICP certification desired or an interchange of related education and experience; a valid Georgia driver’s license.

The ideal candidate will possess a skillset in the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of the principles, practices and trends in comprehensive planning and zoning;
  2. Familiarity with the City of Atlanta’s Neighborhood Planning Units (NPU’s) and other community organizations;
  3. Skills in the use of the latest computer technology;
  4. Familiarity with Geographic Information System (GIS), spreadsheets and databases;
  5. Skills in preparing and delivering public presentations as well as written communications;
  6. Skills in interpersonal, public and political relationships;
  7. Experience in conducting planning and policy related research;
  8. Understanding of community issues related to transportation, park and trail development, community economic development and affordable housing;
  9. Excellent community/customer service skills.
