CH2M is seeking a full-time Zoning and Planning Administrator to join our team in Johns Creek, GA

This position will be responsible for managing the Department of Community Development’s planning and zoning staff. This person will perform the day-today planning and zoning activities, compile, review and assist with amending the City’s comprehensive plan. The position works with city, county and state governments on a variety of city planning and zoning related projects and activities, including the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC). The position primarily works independently once tasks have been assigned and will be responsible for coordinating with other agencies, including local governments or non-profit agencies. This position does require participation in occasional evening meetings.

The Zoning and Planning Administrator:

  • Works directly with customers on any planning and zoning related questions
  • Conducts pre-submittal meetings with public hearing applicants and logs in and processes public hearing applications.
  • Prepares public hearing staff reports and meeting packets
  • Prepares public hearing signs
  • Processes Zoning Certifications
  • Prepares Administrative Variances
  • Reviews sign applications for compliance with sign ordinance
  • Oversees consultants working on planning related projects
  • Maintains case logs, files, and spreadsheets
  • Reviews and approves all development and building plans as it relates to zoning matters
  • Researches, develops, updates, and writes plans and/or creates projects as directed by the Director of Community Development
  • Assists Director of Community Development in matters of developing city ordinances that affect the Community Development Department
  • Works within the city to readily identify a variety of problems related to urban planning, transportation, grants, and/or other basic municipal growth and expansion activities
  • Oversees plans already in progress
  • Plans, develops, and manages future land use planning projects
  • Ensures projects are planned using appropriate zoning and use ordinances
  • Serves on various committees and councils to ensure the implementation of the comprehensive plan
  • Works with all city departments in resolving issues of growth management, land use and other high impact processes including residential and business development
  • Monitors the city’s compliance with approved funding programs; prepares required reports and documents; submits same to appropriate agencies and officials
  • Researches and collects data or generates data and other information related to comprehensive planning
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required by the Department Director

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in city, urban or regional planning, public administration or related field
  • Five plus years of experience and demonstrated success in progressively responsible municipal or county-level planning and zoning
  • Experience with conventional zoning and new construction design guidelines, shared parking methods and form based zoning
  • Experience working as part of a collaborative team while interacting regularly with the public, other governmental agencies, Chambers of Commerce, businesses and economic development interests
  • Experience with governmental grant writing and/or administration
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening meetings at least four times a month (Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals/City Council and Public Art Board)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with no major infractions
  • Proficiency with computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Salary & Benefits
Salary $65,000 to $85,000 depending on level of experience. Full benefit package health, dental and matching 401K
