Atlanta Regional Commission
The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is the regional planning and intergovernmental coordination agency that focuses on issues critical to the region’s success, including growth and development, transportation, water resources, services for older adults and workforce solutions. ARC is dedicated to unifying the region’s collective resources to prepare the metropolitan area for a prosperous future. This is done through professional planning initiatives, the provision of objective information and the involvement of the community in collaborative partnerships.
The Community Development Group works closely with local governments across the 10-county region to help address a range of land use, development, and transportation challenges. Topics include comprehensive planning, multi-jurisdictional planning, creative placemaking, housing, historic preservation, and food systems planning, to name a few.
The Planner, Senior will be responsible for contributing to several programs carried out by the group. Specifically, the individual will create and facilitate innovative stakeholder engagement activities to build consensus on critical local issues, lead and execute projects undertaken through the Community Development Assistance Program (CDAP), and contribute to the Group’s arts, culture, and greenspace planning initiatives. Projects currently being undertaken include comprehensive plans, corridor or subarea plans, studies of special topics such as housing or economic development, and similar planning activities.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of local and regional planning practice in metropolitan Atlanta, including plan preparation, stakeholder engagement, and the role of appointed and elected officials;
- Knowledge of outreach and engagement techniques to build consensus and resolve conflict amongst stakeholders;
- Experience working with local governments in metro Atlanta;
- Ability to provide technical assistance, conduct trainings and workshops, and develop innovative, collaborative solutions to build local capacity;
- Ability to interact with partner agencies, local governments, and the general public;
- Ability to manage and contribute to complex projects and to work as part of a multidisciplinary team;
- Ability to adjust to frequent procedural changes;
- Possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and time-management skills;
- Possess strong organizational skills; ability to handle multiple priorities and consistently meet established deadlines;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and ARCGIS.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (equivalent combination acceptable):
- Bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning, transportation planning, urban planning, public policy, landscape architecture or related field
- Two (2) years of professional urban/transportation planning experience
- Master’s degree in urban or regional planning, transportation planning, urban planning, public policy, landscape architecture or related field
- Five (5) years of work experience in planning, public policy, and/or research field
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: community engagement; land use planning; comprehensive planning; arts and culture; community development; local government policy

Salary & Benefits
ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $53,828 -$91,507(no SS deductions except for Medicare portion, approx. 1.45% of salary)
