Description
The Transportation Planning Division of the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation currently has an open position for a Planning Manager. This role entails various responsibilities aimed at aiding the Division Director in project prioritization and monitoring, ensuring staff competence, and upholding adherence to policies and procedures while maintaining a safe and conducive work environment.

The main duties of this role encompass reviewing plans to guarantee conformity with regulations and plan specifications, including tasks like evaluating rezoning appeals, assessing traffic impact studies, and formulating modifications to regulations, waiver appeals, and zoning variances. Moreover, the Planning Manager will contribute to the creation of long-term transportation plans such as the county’s Comprehensive Transportation Plan and local/regional ventures like SPLOST.

Further responsibilities involve providing assistance during budget preparation, overseeing the management of engineering and consultant contracts, formulating Requests for Proposals (RFPs), supervising design processes, and offering aid tied to departmental capital budgets. Moreover, the individual in this role will assume the position of a technical advisor to other departments, offering expertise in transportation engineering matters. They will also carry the responsibility of supervising the evolution and advancement of grant applications. This position requires effective communication skills and the capacity to engage with staff, citizens, and leadership when necessary.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, landscape architecture, geographic information systems, computer science, or planning
  • Five years of planning experience, including two years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above;
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • (Preferred) Professional Engineer and/or certification as a planner through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)

Salary & Benefits
$74,192.00 – $122,417.00
