Description
This is an entry level planning position that supports services in housing, city planning, zoning, and community development functions.

  • Supports implementation of local attainable housing initiatives.
  • Responds to public inquiries about housing related needs; makes referrals to community resources, including DCA housing programs, local and state down payment assistance or rental housing assistance, weatherization, etc.
  • Supports programs and projects to help stabilize neighborhoods and enhance the quality of life.
  • Collaborates with local, state, and regional agencies to provide homebuyer education, homeowners maintenance and budget training, and other housing-related education.
  • Supports the comprehensive planning process; facilitates community engagement in the planning process; conducts demographic analysis; conducts public surveys; presents updates to the city council, board, and commissions.
  • Conducts plan reviews associates with various permits to determine compliance with permitting requirements; communicates with applicants to discuss permitting requirements.
  • Interprets and applies city codes, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to community development, planning, zoning, and land use.
  • Communicates with attorneys, developers, elected and appointed, other city staff, and the public regarding planning and zoning matters.
  • Serves as liaison to Board of Zoning Appeals. Attends meetings of the Mayor and City Council and the Historic Preservation Commission as needed.
  • Performs related duties.

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in urban planning, geography, or course of study related to the occupational field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.

Salary Range
$59,000 – 69,000

Contributions to your retirement begin immediately and you are 100% vested from day one. The City contributes an amount equal to 5% of your compensation to a 401a with Mission Square Retirement. You also receive up to an additional 5% match if you contribute to your 457b plan. Contributions can be made pre-tax and/or post tax.
