Description
Tall Timbers Research Station & Land Conservancy is seeking a motivated individual to be part of a cohesive team working to increase the pace of land conservation and ensure the sustainability of rural working lands and rural land use traditions throughout the Red Hills region of North Florida and Southwest Georgia. Tall Timbers has permanently conserved over 157,000 acres of forests, wetlands, and waters that protect a variety of listed species. The Red Hills Planner’s main task is to provide community planning services in support of conserving the Red Hills. This position will work cooperatively with Red Hills landowners, local governments, community planning and transportation agencies, regional planning organizations, and the business community to promote quality growth, discourage sprawling development, conserve natural resources, and protect rural landscapes.

Job Requirements

  • Graduate degree in urban and regional planning, public administration, public policy, law, or a closely related field with a minimum of two years of professional experience.
  • Working knowledge of Georgia and Florida growth management laws and processes.
  • Working knowledge of the principles of land use planning and natural resource conservation.
  • Working knowledge of and direct experience with ArcGIS.
  • Ability to successfully work with elected and appointed officials, landowners, business leaders, and the public on conservation, land use, community development, and transportation issues.
  • Ability to research complex land use and conservation issues and formulate approaches and strategies to best represent Tall Timbers conservation interests.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and handle multiple issues simultaneously.
  • Ability to make public presentations and speak in public forums to elected and appointed officials, business and nonprofit leaders, and the public on behalf of Tall Timbers’ conservation interests.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Excellent diplomatic skills and the ability to exercise discretion regarding privileged communications.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
  • Passion for being a resident of the Red Hills and a desire to help conserve the rural working lands and rural land use traditions of the region.
  • Clean driving record.

Salary & Benefits
Hiring range: $55,000 – $70,000, depending upon qualifications. Full benefits.
