Description
The Senior Planner performs professional planning functions in support of the Department of Planning and Development’s operations.
Examples of Duties
- Supports the successful implementation of the City’s land development and permitting procedures;
- Evaluates and processes applications for Planning Commission staff reports;
- Evaluates land subdivision applications for compliance with the City’s subdivision ordinance;
- Conducts zoning reviews for occupational tax certificates, building permits, sign permits, zoning certifications, and land use applications;
- Facilitates complex projects related to land use and development programs such as comprehensive plans or other plans related to growth, development, and redevelopment;
- Interprets the City’s Unified Development Code;
- Conducts on-site reviews and inspections;
- Analyzes site design, circulation, land use compatibility, utilities, and other facilities;
- Assists with the administration of the City’s housing program;
- Assists the public, builders, property owners, staff, and others with general ordinance and code questions; Facilitates workshops, meetings, community outreach events, and public hearings;
- Collaborates with GIS to maintain up-to-date zoning maps and land use maps;
- Prepares staff reports for the Planning Commission.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and three years of planning experience or a Master’s Degree
- Two years of planning experience;
- Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License;
- Advanced knowledge of the philosophies, principles, practices, and techniques of planning
The selected candidate must complete the following requirements prior to starting work with the City of Statesboro:

Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of relevant experience;
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification
Salary Range
$64,335.92 – $72,500.00
