Senior Planner

Under supervision of the Assistant City Administrator, the Senior Planner will conduct and manage long range activities including research and analysis, and maintenance of Master and Comprehensive Plans and related work plans. Researches and prepares reports associated with urban and community planning, comprehensive planning; develops ordinances related to land use; and provides formal written and oral presentations and findings and/or recommendations.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree desire. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in planning and zoning related functions.
  • Knowledge in land use planning, grant writing, GIS mapping, zoning, federal and local government, etc.
  • Ability to analyze demographic data and identify trends in employment, residential development, commercial development, health, and other areas.
  • Knowledge of city zoning and development regulations.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Skills in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Skills in problem solving, multi-tasking, adapting to rapidly changing environments, negotiating, communicating, managing, mentoring, collaboration, and team building.
  • Requires a valid State of Georgia Driver’s License.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification is preferred or must be obtained within one year of hire date.
  • Never been convicted of a felony.
  • A citizen of the United States or has obtained legal work status.
  • Must pass a detailed background investigation.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
  • Must be able to pass a credit check.
