Description
This position is responsible for assisting the Zoning Administrator in the county’s zoning and development services functions. The position is responsible for applying the Bartow County Zoning Ordinance to land use, building, and development projects. The position is responsible for answering inquiries from the public, developers, surveyors, attorneys, and real estate professionals regarding land use and zoning. This position reports to the Zoning Administrator and Community Development Director.

  • Coordinates, plans and facilitates public meetings of the Planning Commission and the Board of Appeals; prepares maps and documents for hearings; briefs board members on applications.
  • Assists the Zoning Administrator in the day-to-day operations of the Zoning Division; meets with professionals and the general public regarding zoning matters, permitting and licensing.
  • Reviews and authorizes plats, plans and annexations.
  • Participates in planning efforts, including the Bartow County Comprehensive Plan,
  • Maintains and develops the Official Zoning Maps of Bartow County; maintains Geographic Information System (GIS) zoning data.
  • Writes and updates the Bartow County Zoning Ordinance; researches methods and ordinances from other jurisdictions.
  • Attends plan review meetings scheduled by the County Engineer.
  • Keeps track of new or revised federal or state regulations, county policies and procedures, applies information to land use planning.
  • Provides assistance to other departments involved in the planning, development and construction process.
  • Performs related duties.

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge of zoning policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of relevant local, state and federal laws.
  • Knowledge of customer service, site construction plans, construction inspection procedures, erosion and sedimentation control measures, building construction plans, planning and zoning procedures, and county and state construction regulations and safety codes.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of county budgeting procedures.
  • Knowledge of plan review principles.
  • Knowledge of GIS principles and practices.
  • Skill in supervision and management.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, maps, plans, drawings, surveys, and related manuals.
  • Aerial photographs
  • Skill in the completion of accurate and timely reports.

Salary Range
$50,000-$60,000 DOQ
