Conference Recap

The popular City of Savannah was once again a great location for the wonderful Fall 2015 conference of the Georgia Chapter of the American Planning Association. The conference was well attended and included two popular keynote speakers. Cathy Sakas presented a humorous and thoughtful presentation on the Grey’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary and former Savannah Mayor Otis Johnson spoke to us about the importance of health in planning our communities. The GPA Board voted at the conference to make a donation to each of these non-profit agencies, thanking them for their contribution to our conference and our profession.

When we weren’t watch big ships go by the windows, attendees were actively engaged in each of the very popular sessions. Our Young Planners Group hosted a great reception allowing planners of all seasons to mingle in a relaxed atmosphere. The students from the southeast schools of planning returned to Georgia for another student-led conference which highlighted the great work they are doing and provided opportunities to interact with professionals, mentors, and future colleagues. A special thanks go to our many annual and conference sponsors, the conference local host committee, and the programs committee for making this event a success.

Thank you to everyone who attended the conference and we look forward to seeing you in Douglasville for our Spring 2016 conference and Fall 2016 in Augusta for our joint conference with South Carolina.
