Founded in 1828, Columbus was the last planned city of the thirteen original colonies. Today, it is Georgia’s second largest city. In an effort to expand delivery of services while saving money, Columbus was the first city in Georgia to form a consolidated city-county government. Columbus’s streamlined governance, combined with key public-private partnerships and an emphasis on restoring the rich cultural and historic legacy of the area, have created a thriving city that celebrates the “old” while continuing to progress towards the “new.”
