Advanced Topic: Home Grown Housing: Local Solutions for Georgia’s Housing Needs (Warner Robins)
This one-day course offers city, county, and community leaders a clear-eyed look at Georgia’s housing challenges—and practical strategies to address them. Participants will explore the underlying forces shaping today’s housing shortage, including demographic shifts, supply constraints stemming from the Great Recession, interest rate volatility, and the impact of local land use policies. The course also highlights actionable steps communities can take to expand housing options, from supporting small-scale infill development and missing middle housing to zoning updates, reclaiming blighted properties, and leveraging state programs and funding tools. Real-world examples from across Georgia will showcase how local governments are fostering housing that fits the needs of their residents, workforce, and long-term economic goals.
