Valdosta to Celebrate Community Planning Month

The City of Valdosta and its planning partners are preparing for Community Planning Month for October when we celebrate the value of quality Community Planning. This is a nationally recognized event sponsored by the American Planning Association (APA) and Valdosta has participated in it for the last three years. The theme this year is “New Ideas for America’s Future”. Below are just some of our events that we are participating in this fall. To see an all-inclusive list, please check the City’s website. Oct. 13: 1-4 p.m.-Peter Kageyama’s Workshop: “For the Love of Cities” at Bas Bleu Downtown Valdosta. What do you love about Valdosta-Lowndes County? Discover how your love affair with your place could help it grow to be even better! Join the Chamber and City love expert, Peter Kageyama, for an interactive workshop about harnessing citizens’ passion for their community.

October 18th, 5:30pm, Tour of the Water Treatment Plant on Guest Road. Come learn about how we create and plan for our water & sewer infrastructure to provide for the needs of our community. 

October 20th, 5:30pm, Tour of the Traffic Management Center. Meet with Transportation Manager Kevin Tolliver and Transportation Planner Corey Hull to discuss how we plan for roadway infrastructure and tour our state of the art Traffic Management Center.

October 21st, “Downtown Valdosta Tour”, co-sponsored by Valdosta Main Street. Tour guides will tell the stories behind downtown’s historic buildings and participant lofts the same night as Art After Dark in beautiful downtown Valdosta.

October 25th, at noon, Five Points Re-development Project Lunch & Learn, in the City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room, 300 North Lee Street, with Assistant to the City Manager Mara Register to give you updates and discuss ideas for our new public space!

October 29th, 10:30am, Lowndes County Historical Society and Museum Tour with Don Davis. “To know your future, you must know your past!” Using historical photographs and artifacts, Museum Director and local historian Donald Davis will give a presentation on Valdosta’s history and development during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

October 31st, at noon, T-SPLOST Lunch & Learn, SGRC Multi-Purpose Room, 327 W Savannah Avenue, with Metropolitan Planning Organization Coordinator Corey Hull to discuss the proposed 1% sales tax for transportation projects.
