Northeast Georgia Planning Collective: Jane Jacobs Walk

September 24, 2020 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

The Northeast Georgia Planning Collective is arranging a Jane Jacobs walk in East Athens to be led by local residents of the neighborhood. We will have two time blocks (3:00-4:30 and 4:30-6:00 PM) in order to provide socially-distant discussion. The discussion will focus on the residential neighborhood, its history, evolution and where it might be going into the future. The area was originally developed for mills and housed working class residents for years, ultimately becoming a predominantly black neighborhood. It is now feeling the development pressure that is common in cities as they follow a re-urbanizing trend. We will contemplate these issues while enjoying an afternoon stroll.

We will be starting along the Firefly Trail, approximately Little Oak St & Burney St.

Masks are currently required in Athens-Clarke County (details are subject to change); however, we will be taking all precautions.

Please contact Marc Beechuk to register. Registration is limited, so sign up soon.
