Struggling Toward a Humane Urbanism & Designing and Economic Revival: The Norfolk Story
October 16, 2014 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
On Oct. 16th CNU Atlanta will spend the day with Ray Gindroz. Please join us. The event will run from 9am to 12 noon on Thurs., Oct. 16th. We will break for lunch in Little 5 Points, and then pick back up around 1/1:30pm and walk the newly formed L5P CID with Scott Ball and other members of the CID Board, with Ray providing commentary. The first part of the day will be split into two talks and the titles of those are as follows –
- CNU Talk No. 1: Struggling Toward an Humane Urbanism
- CNU Talk No. 2: Designing Economic Revival: The Norfolk Story
We have also partnered with the local chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art to present an additional lecture the night before (Oct. 15th). The title of the lecture for the ICAA-SE is Renaissance Urban Acupuncture and other Practical History Lessons for 21st Century Urbanists.
Ray describes the three talks as follows “These three lectures deal with different aspects of my 50 years at Urban Design Associates, during which we developed techniques and methods for building urbanism. The first lecture describes sources of inspiration and lessons for building beautiful urban spaces that are user and pedestrian friendly. The second describes the evolution of our work as we developed and applied those lessons. The third focusses on the City in which we have worked for the past 30 years and looks in detail at some specific applications of the method.”
