Communities across Georgia are collecting more urban forest data than ever, but many still struggle with keeping traditional tree inventories updated and useful for planning. Join us to learn how to turn inventories into clear priorities and defensible decisions.

Josh Behounek, the Business Development Manager for the Davey Resource Group’s Environmental Consulting division, will introduce Smart Tree Inventories, a next-generation approach that combines traditional field data with emerging technologies like LiDAR, AI, and machine learning to deliver faster, more consistent, and more actionable insights. Attendees will learn how smart tree inventories reduce subjectivity, improve data quality, and lead to Smart Tree Management for risk management, maintenance, equity, and long-term canopy resilience.

Bridget Lawlor will compare traditional ISO clustering to AI-derived canopy analysis and how she uses data for planning as the GIS Manager for the City of Sandy Springs. Royce Dingley, an urban forester for the Facilities Management Division at the University of Georgia, will share how they use GIS to capture and manage the campus tree inventory.

The session will also highlight an upcoming regional smart tree inventory in the Atlanta area, creating a unique opportunity for neighboring communities which may have smaller tree populations to participate in a high-quality inventory that may not otherwise be feasible on their own.

This event is free to GTC members and $20 to non-members.
