Joint GPA/ITE Meeting a Success!

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for this year’s joint meeting between the Georgia Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) and the Georgia Planning Association (GPA). Together, we hosted more than 130 engineers and planners at Park Tavern to have a meaningful presentation and discussion on transportation and health. The taco bar was pretty exciting as well!

Our speaker was Chris Kochtitzky, a Senior Advisor in CDC’s Physical Activity and Health Branch, within the Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity. External to CDC, he currently serves on the ITE Transportation and Health Task Force and has, in the past, served as an expert consultant for a number of other initiatives for ULI, APA, the Surgeon General, and other healthy, active committees and organizations around the country. Chris holds an MS in Urban & Regional Planning from Florida State University and is adjunct faculty in Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health.

Chris’s presentation covered the areas of public health concern in which planning and transportation engineering can provide critical support. He also talked about the public health programs at the Federal, state, and local level that are working in these areas and that have begun to reach across the aisle. More specifically, Chris highlighted a few real-world examples of successful cross-sector partnerships and described new opportunities for connections between the health sector and those sectors represented by ITE and APA members.

Below you can download Chris’s slide deck for those who were unable to attend. Links at the end of the presentation can provide valuable resources and information for those looking to incorporate health elements into their planning and design. We look forward to next year’s joint meeting!
