Description
The purpose of this job is to research, prepare and provide technical work for the Planning Department, administering the Metropolitan Planning Organization of the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing administrative support, preparing reports, assisting the public, preparing and administering grants, preparing planning studies, administering planning ordinances and regulations, presenting findings to groups and performing additional tasks as assigned.
When Assigned to Planning Department / Transportation:
- Provides coordination between local governments and state/federal governments regarding transportation planning.
- Prepares technical planning reports and studies for the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) including long-range and short-range infrastructure planning, financial planning, and demographic analysis.
- Prepares and submits grant applications and reimbursement requests that meet federal reporting requirements for grant management.
- Prepares the Transportation Improvement Program, Unified Planning Work Program, Metropolitan Transportation Plan, Limited English Proficiency Plan, Participation Plan and Title VI Plan.
- Maintains socioeconomic estimates and projections for Traffic Analysis Zones through the utilization of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Coordinates transportation demand modeling with the Georgia Department of Transportation.
- Reviews land development activities and determines their impact on the transportation network.
- Prepares minutes from special meetings; provides meeting notices and information, and performs additional support services for MACORTS Committees when necessary.
- Supervises Planner I (MACORTS).
- Organizes and staffs virtual and in-person committee and public meetings.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Job Requirements
- Work Schedule: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday, with some after hours work required.
- May be required to work on religious holidays.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
- Must work cooperatively with others.
- When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC’s safe driving policy.
Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- Bachelor degree in urban/regional planning, engineering, history, public administration, historic preservation or related field, with four years of planning experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Master’s degree preferred.
When assigned to Planning Department / Transportation
- All of the above and;
- Two years of experience with a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is preferred.
Salary Range
$58,411
