Description
This position is responsible for managing and monitoring the operational and personnel activities of the Planning, Zoning, Licensing, and Permits division. Duties include supervising county licensing, permitting, and planning & zoning programs to ensure compliance with relevant federal, state and local codes, providing customer service, developing and ensuring compliance by staff with policy and procedures, reviewing and approving reports, assisting with annual budget, and performing administrative functions of the department.

The position requires strong leadership and organizational skills for confident, consistent, and respectful supervision of division employees. Located in the beautiful North Georgia mountains with features such as Amicalola Falls State Park and access to Lake Lanier, Dawson County is a premier destination for full-time residents and part-time visitors – “Where Quality of Life Matters”.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Geographic Information System (GIS) or a related field.
  • Local government planning, zoning, licensing, and/or permitting experience is preferred.
  • Five years of increasingly responsible experience related to planning & zoning, licensing, and/or permitting; including two years of management/supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, special qualifications and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for the job.
  • Applicant must possess a valid Georgia Driver’s License and maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Applicant must pass a background check and drug screening.

Salary Range
$61,000 DOQ
