Description
This position works directly under the supervision of the Community Development Director to provide professional planning services in support of city planning and community development functions.
- Manages the comprehensive planning process; facilitates community engagement in the planning process; conducts demographic analysis; conducts public surveys; presents updates to the city council, board, and commissions.
- Manages the Capital Improvement Elements (CIE)/Impact Fees program; collaborates with departments to identify upcoming projects; reviews projects list for consistency with CIE program guidelines.
- Serves as staff liaison to the Historic Preservation Commission; reviews projects to determine need for certificates of appropriateness (COA); reviews COA submissions for completeness; conducts sign reviews; prepares staff reports for the commission; prepares meeting agenda and minutes; prepares and distributes correspondence based on commission actions.
- Serves as staff liaison to the Design Review Committee; reviews projects to determine need for committee approval; reviews submissions for completeness; prepares staff reports for the committee; prepares and distributes correspondence based on committee actions.
- Conducts plan reviews associated with various permits to determine compliance with permitting requirements; communicates with applicants to discuss permitting requirements.
- Manages special projects; prepares documents, reports, and guidelines; develops and implements new programs and services.
- Assists the Community Development Director in managing department operations.
- Prepares revenue projections and assists in developing department operating budget recommendations.
- Reviews project proposals through the RFP process to select consultants for various projects.
- Coordinates work with advisory groups, civic organizations, and others.
- Interprets and applies city codes, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to community development, planning, zoning, and land use.
- Supervises Planning and Zoning Staff.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Historic Preservation or similar field.
- Master’s degree preferred
- Three to five years of experience
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
Salary Range
$76,000 – $85,000
