EDI Committee Outreach at a High School Career Fair

Two members of the EDI Committee, Morgan Simmons, AICP with MARTA and Gordon Linton, Planner I with the City of Stockbridge, participated in the Dutchtown High School Career Fair in Henry County on April 19th. Thirty to forty students in grades 9-12 stopped by the table to learn about urban planning and the day-to-day responsibilities of planners. Morgan and Gordon provided students with tips on how to get involved in urban planning and handed out pamphlets and large map handouts. They also demonstrated applications such as the Henry County Tax Assessor website, and the students were particularly interested in the zoning of their high school. Morgan and Gordon shared information about the GPA website and invited the students to contact them if they had further questions about a planning career. Morgan and Gordon, thank you for sharing your time and expertise with the next generation!

The mission of the EDI Committee is to promote more inclusive, just, and equitable communities, which includes partnering with educational institutions to support the recruitment of future planners from underrepresented groups.
