The Planner Hidden in You
By: Geneasa L. Elias, AICP, GPA Planning Official Development Officer
Commissioners, Mayors, Council Members, and other public officials (elected and appointed), is there a “Planner” hidden inside of you? Do you want to speak “Planner” lingo and know what it really means? Do you want to learn about best practices that will help you continue to shape policy decisions that support vibrant, innovative and sustainable communities?Â
If your answer is “yes”, then joining the American Planning Association (APA) is the perfect opportunity for you to reveal that hidden “Planner” inside of you. APA offers Group Planning Board Memberships specifically for you. Membership includes access to published materials such as Planning magazine, Planning Advisory Service and Interact which serve as informative resources for best planning practices.  Membership connects you to your colleagues around the country who can provide effective solutions to similar challenges and issues you may face. Finally, you have access to national and chapter conferences and targeted training courses.
Agencies desiring Group Planning Board membership pay a participation fee of $126 and can enroll an unlimited number of planning commissioners, zoning board members, or elected officials for $73 each ($68 for APA national dues and $5 for APA chapter dues) if they do not earn their living in planning.
