Housing recovery and resilience strategies are often overlooked in proactive planning efforts such as comprehensive and economic development plans. This means that vital rebuilding decisions are often reactive, made only after disaster has hit – when communities are under tremendous pressure. The Resilient Housing Planning Guide was created to address this critical gap. The guide emphasizes community-driven decision making and empowers local leaders and residents to strengthen community planning, streamline access to recovery funding, and enable proactive adaptation to future risks. The RHPG is available as a free resource on the Smart Home America website and a free online training walks users through the guide step-by-step. Smart Home America is available to provide education and technical assistance to communities working to integrate resilient housing strategies into their planning processes.
The Climate Action Group hosted a happy hour on July 10 at New Realm brewing on the Beltline (pictured above) and enjoyed a tour of the Clayton County Water Authority’s Newman Wetlands Center last week. If you are interested in joining and learning about future events, please reach out to the committee.
