EDI Committee Happy Hour

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee hosted its first in-person event on Thursday, April 17th at Atlantucky Brewing in Atlanta. The Happy Hour welcomed all GPA and non-GPA members to learn more about the committee and network with fellow planners while supporting a local staple in the downtown community. Thank you to Sycamore Consulting for their sponsorship and support of this event! The EDI Committee looks forward to more programming this year. We welcome everyone to our monthly meetings, every 4th Friday at noon on Teams.

The City of Brookhaven and its partners, HKS, are recipients of the 2024 GPA Chapter Award for Innovation in Planning for their work on the DNA of a Corridor Vision: Buford Highway Redevelopment. Originally announced in the fall of 2024, the award would have been presented during the annual fall conference; however, the event was cancelled due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene. On Tuesday, April 22, GPA District 3 Director Erin Thoresen presented the award on behalf of the Chapter to Brookhaven’s Mayor, Council Members, City Staff, and the project team from HKS.

The Innovation in Planning award is given in recognition of a specific planning tool, practice, program, project, or process that is a significant advancement to specific elements of planning. The award category emphasizes results and demonstrates how innovative and state-of-the-art planning methods and practices help to implement plans.
