International Women’s Day Event

On Friday March 8, 2024, GPA’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee hosted a panel discussion celebrating International Women’s Day. The panel featured four women who come from a wide range of backgrounds and work in varied areas of planning – including local and federal government as well as the private sector. Panelists Neosha Lawhorn (FHWA), Michele McIntosh-Ross (City of Sandy Springs), Gewel Richardson (Michael Baker International), and Monica Callahan (City of Madison) discussed their experiences developing as professional women and what has helped prepare them for careers in planning and other fields. They shared stories about navigating transitions between the public and private sector, challenges facing women in the workplace, discussed issues of pay equity and what equity and inclusion look like in their respective workplaces.

The event was held in-person at the Georgia Municipal Association and online via Zoom. Attended by more than a dozen people in-person (with 15+ online), the event was a great opportunity for members of the EDI committee to meet face-to-face as well as to grow new relationships with the wider community and to practice more inclusive, just, and equitable planning in our workplaces and our communities.
