Policy and Advocacy Committee Update – February 1, 2023
The 2023-2024 Regular Session of the Georgia General Assembly is underway; during the legislative session, PAC meets weekly to stay up to date on state legislation that relates to local planning. As bills of interest are introduced, PAC will provide information, analysis, and updates to GPA members.
During its January 27th meeting, the PAC voted to support HB 71, the Okefenokee Protection Act, which will bolster efforts to restrict mining near the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. The Georgia Conservancy, which strongly supports the bill, has provided a detailed background of the issues at stake.
