University of Georgia Masters of Urban Planning + Design Student Orientation Update

The Georgia Planning Association took time to welcome the newest class of UGA Masters of Urban Planning + Design (MUPD) students to campus on August 12. The event was hosted at the Tanner building on campus which is home to student design studios, numerous practical learning courses and even a place to rest their heads on those long nights that are in their futures. The program welcomed 14 new students with a range of backgrounds from architecture to environmental studies to landscape architecture and political science.

The degree has evolved and grown since its founding in 2009. It takes a design and studio focus along with GIS instruction and theoretical guidance. MUPDs can focus on just Planning or take the option of combining with the Public Administration (MPA) program or Law (JD) program. Additionally, there is now the opportunity for undergraduate students to obtain a minor in Urban Planning.

GPA looks forward to welcoming these students in Augusta this October and supporting them throughout the next two (or so) years. If you are looking for interns, researchers, data gurus or designers keep our newest crop of planners in mind. Many will also be volunteering at the conference this year and certainly in Athens next year, please introduce yourselves, welcome them to the profession and share some insight.

Go Dawgs!
