Rethink. Recover. Rebuild. (CM | MULTIPLE)

Planners:  Obtain certification maintenance credits and enjoy a dynamic conference this spring in Philadelphia!

The Rethink. Recover. Rebuild: Reinventing Older Communities conference will be held Wednesday, May 12 to Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing.  The conference consists of plenary speakers such as former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, concurrent sessions led by 58 nationally recognized practitioners and researchers, and three community tours.

Members of the American Institute of Certified Planners can obtain certification maintenance (CM) credits for all plenary and concurrent sessions on May 12, 2010, and May 13, 2010. The American Planning Association (APA) has approved the sessions for credits.  The remaining sessions and tours have been submitted to the APA for CM approval.
This conference, the fourth biennial Reinventing conference, focuses on reinventing older communities in the wake of the subprime foreclosure crisis and the federal government’s economic stimulus programs.  The conference covers urgent community development issues and brings together planners, policymakers, community developers, bankers, researchers, funders, and government representatives.

Conference topics include foreclosure prevention, sustainable homeownership, investor-owned properties, increasing the middle class, the financial crisis facing cities and towns, federal transportation funding priorities, and reforming the housing finance system.  Tours are being conducted of The Navy Yard, Temple University Neighborhood Revitalization Initiatives, and Mastery Charter School.

Sponsors include the William Penn Foundation, the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program, the Ford Foundation, the University of Pennsylvania’s Institute for Urban Research and Wharton School, The Reinvestment Fund, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh, the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, and the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency.

Early-bird registration ends April 9.  Hotel reservations must be confirmed by April 20 to ensure a discounted conference rate.
