Throughout the past year, local governments have been dealing with decreased tax revenues, foreclosed homes and neighborhoods, budget cuts and staff reductions. These issues are driving conversations about how cities and counties in the region will survive the downturn and emerge with policies and plans in place to stabilize their local economies. This workshop will provide a forum for discussion and a chance to hear from experts in the field on the following issues:

  • New data on the current economic situation
  • Foreclosure and what local governments can do to mitigate its impacts
  • Retail development in the midst of a struggling economy
  • Wise infrastructure investments
