Diversity, Inclusion + Social Good in Urban Analytics (DISA) Symposium – POSTPONED

April 3, 2020 @ 8:30 am - 5:30 pm

Due to COVID-19, this has been postponed. Date TBD.

Urban Analytics (UA) and Smart Cities (SC) research and degree programs are growing across the U.S. and around the world. This research has developed powerful techniques for spatial data creation, capture, and analysis.

Yet, these fields were founded with technocratic and engineering problem-solving ideals. As such, these programs and research agendas often operate without an explicit ‘plan’ for how technology and data analysis will tackle real world issues.

To help cities reach the most vulnerable citizens and improve daily life, research questions and execution in this field need re-definition and intervention.

Join us at DISA to…

  • Generate solutions for how our research and teaching can include a more diverse body of tacit knowledge from the urban community.
  • Discuss how we can solve real-life problems with data analytics.
  • Develop strategies and recommend formal research frameworks to guide Urban Analytics and Smart Cities research towards championing citizen voices and helping people.
  • Empower urban analytics students and researchers to shape urban research questions, methodologies and implementation in a way that positively impacts the city and its people.
