GPA Planner's Lunch (CM | 3.0)

In cooperation with the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission we will hold a planner’s lunch in Rome, GA.

Leigh Burns, Outreach Program Manager, Preservation Planner, & Certified Local Government Program Coordinator, Historic Preservation Division, Georgia Department of Natural Resources will speak on historic preservation and planning.

Kevin McAuliff is an Environmental Planner with the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission. In addition, he is Secretary of the Whitfield County Historic Preservation Commission and of the non-profit Save Dalton’s Battlefields, and sits on the Administrative Committee of the Dalton Historic Preservation Commission and the board of Chieftains Museum. Kevin will talk about a grassroots effort in Whitfield County to purchase and preserve important Civil War battlefield sites.

During lunch, Alvin Jackson and/or Ron Sitterding will discuss the history and importance of Old Main School (circa 1934), and the recent renovation so that nonprofit agencies could use the structure for administrative offices and programs that serve disadvantaged youth in the community.
